How to remove an ignition cylinder for repair or replacement if your Grand Cherokee's
ignition won't turn. This is due to the tumblers failing. Key must be tuned
to the on position. Then you press in the lock tab to release it so you can repair
yourself or more likely, bring it to a locksmith to have the tumblers replaced.
This can be done to match the existing key. Obviously, you'll have to get
it to turn to do this. Usually a good dose of WD40 and tapping on the head of
the key (straight in) will free it up temporarily. This would be the view from
underneath the column after removing the two shroud halves. |
