What kind of car should I restore, this is a difficult question for anybody to answer for you, the main idea here is to ask yourself what you like, and once you know the answer to that you can do some research in to that particular car, there are some thing that you need to know before you start your restoration project, especially if you plan to do the work yourself, and not enlist the aid of a restoration shop.

1.Start with a car you like, this will obviously make a huge difference.
2.Research the parts availability for that particular car, this is a very important step in the evolution of your car, it can make, or brake you entire project.
3.If parts are extremely difficult to get, maybe you should consider a car that there were a lot of built, like a Mustang, or a Camaro.
4.You can use the Internet to do your research, first look in the common places like year one, and classic industries to see if they have parts for your car, if not continue the search, this part could take some time, so be prepared.
5.Plan your budget for the car, obviously you'll need to know the cost of your parts, paint, and other supplies that you'll need for the job, this is part of your research, make sure that you have left some wiggle room in the budget plan for you project.
6.If you have a shop do the work, make sure that they know exactly how much you have to spend, give the shop a low finished price, and a high finished price, this will make the job a lot more pleasant for you and the shop that you choose, because everybody knows where to draw the line, if things change be sure to let the shop know.

The best idea of all is the the restoration of you ca goes smooth, and as planed, if it doesn't go as planed, this is when that sour taste will start, and it's hard to get rid of, you start blaming the shop for all of the problems, when if you had kept in contact, all of the problems could have been solved, if you restore the car yourself, the sour taste is what will make you put the car in your back yard and forget all about it.

I'm here to tell you, it's best to just have everything go smooth, and as planed, then your restoration work will get finished, and you'll be driving your car, and showing it off, and this is much better then leaving it to rust in the back yard, it is a horrible thing when that happens.

If you concentrate on the few things that I have talked about here, you project will more then likely get finished as planed, and you'll be enjoying your freshly restored car, one other point that I could make, is don't go out looking for a $3,000 muscle car to restore, you'll get something that you don't want, a good price to start with for your muscle car or classic car purchase is around $10,000, and at that price you should look the car over thoroughly before you purchase it, take it to a shop, and have them look it over, almost any shop will do at least that for you.
