How To Increasing Engine Horsepower

There are several ways of increasing Engine Horsepower. Weight
The first thing you can do is to reduce as much weight from the vehicle as possible.
• Don’t keep anything in the boot
• Change your metal bonnet to a carbon fibre one
• Use Alloy Rims which are far lighter than the standard metal ones

Exhaust System
The next step that should be taken to increase Engine Horsepower is to upgrade the Exhaust System
• Removing the Catalytic converter and straight piping the exhaust will increase Horsepower
• For extra horsepower above 6000 Rpm you can add an aftermarket header that will increase it by about 3-4 peak HP
• A Cat Back upgrade should be done first to get the full benefit of this modification.

Using a Polished Intake Manifold will also reduce the resistance even further as well as using bigger Air Filters and using less intake piping to give it a more direct flow.

ECU
You can also reprogram the ECU by adding a chip that some people claim has improved the HP of their vehicles.

Flowmeter
By replacing the Flowmeter in the intake tract you will remove the bottleneck as it is very restrictive and reduces Horsepower. By performing this modification you will increase peak HP by about 5.

Shaving Cylinder Head
Shaving the cylinder head increases compression which in turn increases Horsepower because it makes the fuel more combustible. Note: Please be advised to check for your maximum cylinder head shaving limit with your vehicles workshop manual.

Increase Displacement
Increasing displacement gives the engine more power as it allows it to burn more fuel with each revolution and this can be done by the cylinder size.

Changing under drive Pullies
This modification consists of changing Crankshaft and Alternator pullies to reduce accessory drag and can increase Engine Horsepower by about 15.
