The History of the Subaru Outback
by Art Gib

The Subaru Outback has long been an icon of green living, adventure and outdoor living. Created in 1995 to cater to those who were more ecologically conscious, it still holds true for today as one of the most versatile and iconic vehicles of the twentieth and twenty-first century.
The Subaru Outback was first available in Japan under the name Legacy Grand Wagon in 1995. It was renamed the Outback in the United States, as an alternative to the gas guzzling SUV and off-road vehicles from American car manufacturers. It boasted a lower, more sedan-like frame, with off roading capabilities and superior Subaru Outback parts.

Though it looked more like a car, it actually had more ground clearance than many small SUV's of the time. It appealed to those who wanted a more rugged vehicle, yet didn't want the gas consumption and size of the typical SUV of the nineties.

In 1997, Subaru released a newly designed Subaru Outback that features hood scoops, and a new name; the Legacy Lancaster. It upped the ante with climate control and a more refined interior. Sales had been declining in 1997 in the North American markets. The Outback was reintroduced as a new trim level for consumers, and a more aggressive marketing technique was employed to see the new Outbacks.

In 1998, the car launched a test production and run in New England and found the test market to be receptive and successful. In 1999, the redesigned vehicle was introduced nationwide with all of the upgrades previously offered as stock items.

Within a few years, the Outback became an automobile model in its own right, due to its enormous popularity and following. Still all wheel drive and build for tougher roads, its exterior has been redesigned to reflect a sleeker sedan look. It now includes a wagon and a sedan as part of its immensely popular line, and is still known for its eco-friendly reputation for those who want lower gas consumption without sacrificing performance.

The Subaru Outback has long been a staple for those who live an active, out of doors lifestyle, and is synonymous with style, substance and a lifestyle that is at one with nature. Keep your new running smoothly with yearly tune ups and quality, OEM Subaru Outback parts. OEM parts are typically of a far higher quality than aftermarket parts, and you can expect them to last longer and perform better.

When you properly take care of your vehicle, you'll be able to enjoy your new car for years to come.
